Louisiana economy shows growth, but challenges remain: Committee of 100 year-end report

Wages in north Louisiana are growing faster than those in south Louisiana according to a year-end report by the Committee of 100.

The report by C100 highlights challenges and opportunities facing Louisiana's economy.

Louisiana has seen a 25 percent increase in wages since 2019 with a 31 percent average growth above Interstate 10 compared to a 10 percent average for south Louisiana.

"Louisiana leaders made significant positive strides to drive economic growth this year, improvements to Louisiana Economic Development, education accountability and much better tax policy," CEO of the Committee of 100 for Economic Development Adam Knapp said in a news release. "While Louisiana has seen some positive economic trends we must work to create a more competitive environment that attracts and retains residents."

Identified as continued challenges for Louisiana are the state's economy climbing back to pre-COVID job numbers, population loss due to outward migration, automobile insurance rates $500 more per year than the southern state average and the highest adult and child poverty rates in the south.

C100 serves as Louisiana's business roundtable bringing together the state's top leaders in business and academia providing leadership and resources to engage its member in nonpartisan advocacy to improve Louisiana for all its residents.
